Gorkha Service Society’s (GSS) new working committee was formed recently under the presidency of Ash Bahadur Gurung. GSS is an umbrella organisation of non-resident Nepalis who originally hail from Gorkha, a western hilly district of Nepal.

The 17-member committee comprises Sudarshan Bhatta as the senior vice-president, Deepak Lamichhane as the second vice-president, Rajeshwor Dhakal as general secretary, Dhan Bahadur Shrestha as secretary, Rakesh Shrestha as treasurer and Iman Jung Baniya as sub-treasurer.

The group unanimously elected Hakmadin Miya, Om Nath Gurung and Santosh Banjara as contact members for administrative areas 1, 2 and 3. The other elected members are Purna Bahadur Gurung, Ajir Mohammad Miya, Sukumar Shrestha, Antiman Ghale, Chetnath Khanal, Hari Prashad Banjara and Gyanendra Neupane.

The programme was chaired by Shree Krishna Bhattarai, outgoing president of GSS, and G B Pariyar, founding vice president of the same. Mahendra Pokhrel, president of International Artists Society (IAS) and Budhbal Gurung, chief advisor of GSS, were also present in the programme.

In his speech, G B Pariyar elaborated on the history of Gorkha people who showed their bravery and leadership in the unification of Nepal 250 years ago.

Founded in 2003, GSS is involved in philanthropic and social service in its home district in Nepal. It has provided medical equipment’s and financial support to kidney patients in Nepal.
