Nepalese literary forums come together to form new committee

Nabodit Literary Library (NLL) and Nabodit Literary Mobile Library (NLML), initiatives of Qatar-based Nepalese community, held their joint conference on Friday. Both libraries are popular among Nepalese expats as they lend and distribute the literary volumes to the enthusiasts. Two libraries with similar names and works are now united after the conference, which took place in Homeland Restaurant, Doha.

The conference was chaired by Indra Mani Nepal, president of NLML and Purna KC, vice co-ordinator of Nonresident Nepalese Association -- Gulf Region, was the chief guest. Representatives of various Nepalese organisations, journalists and writers were present at the function.

The joint conference unanimously elected a new working committee led by Bhanu Sunuwar as chairman. The new committee members are Rabindra Kumar Shrestha as vice chairman, Bindeshwor Thakur as second vice chairman, Rajeshwor Dhakal as library co-ordinator, Sitaram Thapa as general secretary, Raju Mukhiya as secretary, Prem Bhandari as treasurer and Ishwor Shahi as vice treasurer.

Likewise, the new working committee members of Nabodit are Purna Kanchha Gurung, Lekha Karki, Deep Milan, Y P Gautam, Bishnu Palpali, Rajan Lama, Bechan Mahato, Sanu Babu Malla, Meghraj Karki, Chandra Khadka, Mohan Shah, S P Mathabar and Yam Gurung.              

At the event, poets Bimal Subedi and Shiba Ram Thapa recited poems dealing with recent tragedy caused by monsoon disasters in Nepal. They urged Nepalese government to support the affected community with full spirit.

Likewise, Mohan Shah recited ghazals about romance, betrayal, tragedy and pain. Prabin Rai lyrically criticised Nepalese politicos for their passive demeanours and pushing hundreds of youths to foreign countries. Purna Kanchha recited his piece about his scenic home country waiting for her sons and daughters, currently working overseas.

Tirtha Sangam Rai, president of International Literary Society, recited a poem about melancholy and reminiscence of a Nepalese family whose one member is working abroad and will come back only after few years. Chief guest Purna KC appreciated the initiatives taken by Nabodit in popularising Nepalese literature and art in Qatar and unleashing the literary talents of the community. He further mentioned that his organisation being ready to financially assist Nabodit if necessary.

The programme was hosted by Nabaraj BK and Birendra Kumar Shrestha delivered the welcome speech.
