The Baglung Welfare Society left behind 31 other Nepali teams to win a volleyball tournament organised by the Tamu Welfare Society recently. The final matches were held in Sanaiya-44 as thousands of fans watched.
A cash prize of QR3,000 was given to the winning team, in addition to a medal, trophy and  certificate. The prizes were distributed by Indra Dev Pandey, labour attaché with the Nepalese embassy, and Maksud Alam, president of the Non-resident Nepalese Association.
The Palpa Service Society came second and was given a cash prize of QR2,000. The Anabeeb Services Company finished third with a cash prize of QR1,000.
Bikram Thapa and Jal Pun of Anabeeb Services Company were respectively declared the best player and the best lifter. Pahal Gharti Magar was declared the best shooter and spiker. Mekha Gurung won the best libero, Govinda Oli won the best blocker and Tek Thapa won the best defence awards. Belu Gauchan and Puran BK of Baglung Service Society were declared the best receiver and server, respectively.      
Krishna Tamu, the president of Tamu Welfare Society, said the tournament was part of the society’s commitment to games. He said they have been organising sporting tournaments regularly since 2007.
The Baglung Service Society team was represented by Belu Gauchan, Lalit Pun, Deepak Thapa, Gobinda BK, Durga Bhujel, Puran BK, Ishu Thapa, Himmat Gurung, Man Singh Pariyar, Krishna Baral (coach), Nagendra Paudel (coach) and Prem Gurung (team manager).
The Palpa Service Society was represented by Pashupati Rana, Pahal Gharti, Shankar Malla Thakuri, Toya Ram Shrestha, Govinda Wali, Tek Bahadur Thapa, Bom Bahadur Thapa, Mekh Raj Gurung, Tara Lama, Yam Bagale (coach), Krishna Rana (team manager) and Ganga Thapa (assistant team manager).  The Anabeeb Services Company was represented by Bikram Thapa, Khem Gurung, Jal Pun, Milan Gurung, Kaji Nischal, Sangam Deurali, Ram Chhettri, Sabi Magar, Bijaya Magar, Naresh Magar (coach), Shree Prashad Magar (team manager) and Mohan Thapa (assistant team manager). Purna Gurung, Lal Kaji Gurung, Nil Gurung, Gaurav Gurung, Madan Gurung, Arjun Gurung, Surya Rana, Bhakta Raj Gurung, Tam Raj Gurung and Bikram Gurung were the referees during the tournament.
