A Chinese family visits a nearly empty park decorated with lanterns for the Spring Festival celebrating the lunar new year at an ancient park in Beijing yesterday. China’s most important holiday, the Spring Festival, began on February 19 and marks the start of the Year of the Sheep, according to the Chinese zodiac. Due to the tragedy in Shanghai on January 31, 2014 where dozens were killed due to a stampede, Beijing has toned down its annual festivities in hopes of preventing another tragedy during a holiday.
