Qatar Steel managing director and general manager Ali bin Hassan al-Muraikhi has emphasised the need for preparedness in facing new challenges in the steel industry during a strategy forum held at the Doha Marriot Hotel.

In his keynote speech, al-Muraikhi said the steel industry was operating in a “dynamic and highly-competitive” environment.

Al-Muraikhi also urged executives “to be more proactive and creative in their thinking and use this platform for collaborative work and open discussion to bring about new ideas and solutions to resolve organisational challenges impacting the company.”

During the forum, Qatar Steel’s senior executives formed cross-functional teams to discuss strategic priorities geared towards achieving operational improvements and sustained growth in line with its long-term strategic goals.

While supporting the need for similar forums to be held yearly, al-Muraikhi called for “commitment and responsibility” for all company employees “to be actively associated with a clear plan of action and implementation to manage a portfolio of strategic initiatives drawn up from such high-level meetings.”

“At Qatar Steel, key stakeholders’ aspirations are well articulated in its ‘Theme-based Corporate Strategy Map’ that is validated once in three years,” he said.

“The company strategic themes are reflecting operational excellence in production, market pioneer approach and service in target markets, growth of the integrated business portfolio in Qatar and abroad, supported by high-performing organisation and commitment to the Qatar National Vision 2030,” he added.

Qatar Steel is the first Qatari company inducted to Palladium’s “Hall of Fame” for strategy execution due to extensive adaptation of the balanced scorecard methodology in line with best practices.

The Qatar Steel Strategy Forum 2014 was organised by the company’s Strategic Planning department and facilitated by Palladium Group.
