Qatar is a premium market for LG and there is a significant customer base for its high-end products such as the curved OLED television, senior company officials have said.
Speaking to Gulf Times on the sidelines of the launch of the world’s first curved OLED TV at GITEX Shopper in Dubai recently, James Kim, product manager (TV division) at LG Electronics, said the company is also targeting the No 1 position in Qatar’s television market.
“Qatar is a premium market for LG and the sale of high-end products is very high in the country. We will launch the OLED TV in Qatar soon and are expecting a good response there. Already, the 84-inch TV is doing well in Qatar. We are targeting the number one position in Qatar’s TV market and our distributor there (Jumbo Electronics) is strong. We are looking to further improve our premium sales through products such as OLED and Ultra HD and achieve the number one position,” he said.
CV Rappai, director and general manager of Jumbo Electronics, said the OLED is an expensive product and manufacturers have a cautious approach towards it. “It is not only a niche market, but a very niche market. However, we also feel that there is a customer base for this product in the Gulf, especially Qatar. We definitely expect a demand. The curved OLED will be available in another two months and there will be pre-booking for the TV. We will keep one or two pieces in the showroom so that people can come and see it for pre-booking,” he asserted.
DY Kim, president of LG Electronics, Gulf FZE, also expressed confidence over the product. “Qatar has many high-end customers and we are ready to reach out to them with our partner, Jumbo Electronics,” he said.
Asked what makes the LG curved OLED different, James Kim said a similar TV produced by its rival has only three colours in its images (red, green and blue) while LG’s has four (white, red, green and blue). “This will ensure a better picture quality. Also, the LG OLED has a thickness of only 4.5mm and weighs just 17kg. Design-wise, our OLED TV is the best in the market,” he added.
