EMEA Finance has named Amwal the ‘Best Asset Manager’ in Qatar in 2012 for the second consecutive year in recognition of its excellent investment performance track record. “In a competitive market, Amwal has outperformed its peers — its Qatar Gate Fund, for example, has proved to be the best-performing Qatar equity fund, beating the performance of the Qatar Exchange Index,” Christopher Moore, Publisher & CEO, EMEA Finance, said. Qatar’s goal of making itself an asset management hub for the region requires strong local names like Amwal, according to Tim Burke, Editor, EMEA Finance. “On a three-year basis, ending December 31, 2012, our flagship Qatar Gate Fund outperformed the index by 23.5% and the closest competitor by 10.4%,” Afa Boran, Head of Asset Management, Amwal, said. At a time when real interest rates are below zero, equities offer excellent value. However, careful stock selection is key, he said on his views of Qatari stocks. About the Qatari market, he said one finds a combination of high quality companies expanding opportunistically in the region and others distributing high dividends.
