Police arrested a ward councillor and a former mayor of southeastern Bandarban municipality early yesterday on charges of making derogatory comments about the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the social networking site Facebook.  
The arrested were identified as Mizanur Rahman Biplab, a former mayor of Bandarban municipality and Habibur Rahman Khokon, councillor of ward-8.  
A police team arrested Mizanur Rahman in front of the District Judge’s Court at around 3.30 am.  After interrogation, police raided the house of Habibur Rahman and arrested him from his Member Para residence in the hill town in the wee hours of yesterday.
 Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Rakibullah said Mizanur Rahman and Habibur Rahman had long been making derogatory comments against Bangabandhu using fake identities, ‘Tungipara’, on the Facebook.  
Police also seized the computer which was used for it from a shop, ‘Ekata Printers’, in the town.  
Later, they were arrested in a case filed under the ICT Act.  Police are also trying to arrest the other members of the group.
