75 return after serving jail in Indiathrough southwestern Benapole checkpost in Jessore district yesterday after serving three months’ jail term in an Indian prison.
Indian police handed them over to Benapole immigration authorities.
Aslam Hossain, officer in-charge of Benapole immigration checkpost, said a group of human traffickers had sent them to India alluring them with lucrative jobs two and a half years back through Jessore border.
Later, Indian police arrested them from Mumbai. Of the arrestees, 73 were women. They hail from different parts of Narail, Bagerhat and Satkhira districts.
A case had been filed against them and an Indian court awarded them three months’ imprisonment and sent them to Mumbai central jail for crossing the border without valid documents.
The Indian government has returned them following repeated requests of the home ministry of Bangladesh through sending letters several times.
The Benapole port police handed them over to their respective families through a human rights organisation and Bangladesh National Women Lawyers Association.
