The Bangladesh high court (HC) yesterday deferred until the next hearing on a revision petition filed by Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson Khaleda Zia seeking its order for recording deposition in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case anew.
An HC bench comprising Justice Moinul Islam Chowdhury and Justice JBM Hassan passed the order following a time petition filed by her lawyers.
On May 25, the BNP chief filed an appeal with the Special Judge Court-3 seeking cancellation of the deposition of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) deputy director Harunur Rashid, also the complainant of the case, for recording the deposition in the absence of Khaleda Zia.
However, the court rejected the petition.
Lawyer Mahbub Uddin Khokon filed a revision petition with the high court on Sunday seeking cancellation of the lower court order.
Zia’s counsel Ehsanur Rahman said the court deferred the hearing saying “not his week” following their petition.
The ACC filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on July 3, 2008, accusing Khaleda Zia, her eldest son Tarique Rahman, now living in the UK after securing bail, and four others for misappropriating over 21mn taka which came as grants from a foreign bank for orphans.
On August 5, 2010, Harunur Rashid submitted a charge-sheet to the court in the case against six people, including BNP chairperson Zia.
The hearing on the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case along with Zia Charitable Trust graft case against the BNP chairperson is scheduled to be held with the special judge court
tomorrow.
