BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia campaigns for the party-endorsed Dhaka North City Corporation mayor candidate Tabith Mohammed Awal in Dhaka yesterday.

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday joined electioneering for her party-backed candidates for the city polls by campaigning in Gulshan-2 area for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayoral contestant Tabith Awal.
Without any prior announcement and schedule, Zia along with BNP vice chairman Selima Rahman and some party leaders and activists came out of her residence at around 4:15pm to carry out electioneering in
the area.
She went to Pink City in the Gulshan-2 area and started campaigning by seeking votes from shoppers and shopkeepers in a market for BNP-supported mayoral candidate Tabith.
Zia talked to voters and urged them to vote for ‘Bus’, the election symbol of Tabith.
Earlier on Pahela Baishakh, she joined a Bengali New Year celebrations at her party’s Naya Paltan headquarters and sought votes for her party-backed candidates.
Zia formally began canvassing for Tabith, bringing a momentum in the electioneering of the pro-BNP candidates.
Tabith is the son of her adviser Abdul Awal Mintoo, also former president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
The three-time prime minister remained confined in her political office for long three months and returned home after appearing in a court proceeding on two corruption cases.
The elections are scheduled for April 28.
