The International Crimes Tribunal-1 yesterday sent another captured war crimes suspect, Akram Hossain Khan, of Bagerhat to Dhaka Central Jail after he was produced before it by the prosecution.

Khan, who had gone into hiding after an arrest order was issued by the tribunal against him and two others, was arrested from northwestern Rajshahi on Friday. He was later brought to the capital.

Khan, now 60, was allegedly involved in a massacre in Shankharikathi Bazar in Kachua of southern Bagerhat district during the Liberation War in 1971, according to the ICT investigation agency.

Meanwhile, the three-member tribunal held back till July 6 the hearing on the two applications filed by detained war crimes suspect Abdul Latif Talukder of Bagerhat
seeking bail.

The two petitions were moved by lawyer Sarwar Hossain, the newly-engaged counsel for war crimes suspect Latif, who was arrested by police on June 11 after the tribunal issued a warrant for his arrest upon a petition moved by the prosecution.

Besides, the tribunal on June 18 allowed the investigation officer’s plea, submitted through the prosecution, seeking to interrogate detained war crimes-suspect Latif at safe home for a day, which is yet to take place.

The scheduled cross-examination of Investigation Officer Idris Ali, the last prosecution witness (PW-19), was shifted to June 29 following a prayer from the defence counsel for detained ATM Azharul Islam, a leader of
Jamaat-e- Islami.
