The mass national anthem singing in Dhaka on the occasion of Bangladesh’s Independence Day on March 26 has finally been listed in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Guinness yesterday confirmed the rare achievement two weeks after 254,537 people sang ‘Sonar Bangla’ (Golden Bengal) together at the National Parade Square in Dhaka on the Independence Day.

The event ‘Lakho Konthe Sonar Bangla’ (Golden Bengal in the voice of hundred thousands) was organised by the ministry of cultural affairs in association with the Bangladesh army.

The staff of Sahara India Pariwar made the previous record when 121,653 employees sang ‘Jana Gana Mana’ in
May 2013.

The Guinness authority said: “The most people singing a national anthem simultaneously is 254,537 and was achieved by the ministry of cultural affairs, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh (Bangladesh) at the National Parade Ground in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on March 26, 2014.”

Though Bangladeshis had sung their national anthem on the country’s Independence Day (March 26) it wasn’t recorded on the Guinness Book of World Records till yesterday.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Guinness authority said they had been waiting “to receive evidence for the record claim for most people singing a national/regional anthem
simultaneously.”
