Air New Zealand unveiled a Boeing aircraft yesterday decorated with a giant canvas depicting scenes from the latest JRR Tolkien fantasy movie The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, which will premiere next week.
The 73m-long canvas featuring Gandalf and other characters with a backdrop from the film is the largest graphic to be applied to an aircraft, according to the state-owned company.
“New Zealand is the home of Middle-earth and the Hobbit movies will be hugely important to New Zealand’s tourism industry,” airline chief Rob Fyfe said.
The film will premiere on Wednesday in Wellington, home of director Sir Peter Jackson, and open in cinemas worldwide next month.
The official Hobbit plane will fly between Auckland, Los Angeles and London.
