Malacanang yesterday said that there is no need for President Benigno Aquino to give any public apology for the “twerking” controversy following an appearance of sexy dancers in a Liberal Party (LP) event in Laguna.
In a radio interview, Palace deputy spokesman Abigail Valte said that President Aquino has nothing to do with the allegedly lewd performance.
“The president had nothing to do with it. The president had no idea that it was happening. He did not condone it,” Valte told government-run dzRB radio.
“At this point, the president will never condone nor will he ever give approval to any act that would denigrate our women; that would debase them or would contribute to such an indignity,” she said, noting how much respect the president has for women.
“Whether or not there will be sanctions while the president is chairman of the LP needs to seen,” Valte added.
An online petition has been put up asking President Aquino, as chairman of the LP, to apologise for the incident. The party’s standard-bearer Manuel Roxas on Friday said that the LP has already launched an investigation into the incident.
