President Benigno Aquino, the country’s first bachelor leader, hinted of a more active love life after his term, saying he was “hoping” for a partner long enough but that it will not be anytime soon.
At a public gathering in Mandaluyong City (Metro Manila), Aquino poked fun at Public Works Secretary Rogelio Singson’s nickname, ‘Babes’, which is actually a term of endearment for lovers. “On July 1, 2016, I hope that if I ever talk with a babe, it will not be Babes Singson anymore,” the president said drawing laughter from the audience.
He even told them to be “patient” until he finds someone who he has been “hoping” for.
“But I have long been hoping for that someone, so be patient with me,” the president said.
Aquino has been linked to a number of female personalities, many of whom got married after their break-up.
Among them are broadcast journalists Korina Sanchez, who is now married to Manuel “Mar” Roxas and Bernadette Sembrano.
The president was also seen dating TV host Grace Lee and celebrity stylist Liz Uy in the past.
After Aquino’s election in 2010, many believed he would claim a first lady.
His job as president, however, seemed to be too constraining for him to enjoy the luxury of having a love life.
In a previous interview, he even likened his lovelife to a popular soft drink brand, Coke Zero.
“My love life is still like Coke Zero. I hope that when I step down from the presidency, it will at least go back to being like Coke Light,” the president said during the inauguration of the soft drink company’s plant in Canlubang City, Laguna province.
