Once known for committing blunders while conversing in the  English language, former actress and comedienne Angelica Jones is now heralded as “Laguna’s Angel of Public Service.”

Still in her first term as provincial board member in the Third District of  Laguna, the 31-year-old neophyte politician seems to have proven and endeared herself to her constituents.

This was what was gathered by a group of entertainment reporters during a visit to Calamba.

Jones, who instituted “People’s Day” in her office every Monday, believes she ably represents her district’s sentiments in the province’s committee hearing, after listening to their concerns, and if possible extending various forms of assistance given the capacity of her post. She has also spearheaded book donations to village council libraries and schools in co-operation with Children International Philippines; blood donation campaigns in partnership with several hospitals in the province; the distribution of free insulin for diabetics in indigent communities in co-operation with JCI Hiyas de San Pablo.

She also helps in securing scholarships to colleges and universities, including those with tie-ups with Technical Education and Skills Development Authority for deserving youths.

“I always make it my priority to serve my constituents first and foremost. I always put them first,” she said.Nevertheless, whenever time permits, Angelica still dabbles in some showbiz engagements, mostly entertaining endorsement offers.

“I miss showbiz,” she admitted. For now though, the popular public servant is busy preparing for Christmas projects.
