Haze has returned to Malaysia, with at least two areas of the peninsula recording unhealthy levels, according to the environment department.

It said three areas in the eastern state of Sarawak, on the island of Borneo, were experiencing unhealthy levels of smoky haze due to forest fires in the neighbouring Indonesian province of Kalimantan.

Eight states in peninsular Malaysia, including the capital Kuala Lumpur and the federal administrative centre of Putrajaya, were also experiencing moderate haze, the department said.
