Filipino protesters hold placards opposing the Enhanced Defence Co-operation Agreement (Edca) outside the US embassy in Manila yesterday. The demonstrators denounced the defence pact, which allows US troops to access designated military camps, construct new facilities and position equipment, aircraft and vessels in the Philippines, warning the pact could lead to permanent US troop deployment in the country.
