The assistant manager of a rural bank in the province of Aklan was shot dead inside the bank early yesterday morning.
A police report reaching Iloilo City identified the victim as Gabriel Manican, 68, of Barangay Capilihan, Ibajay town, the assistant manager of the Rural Bank of Ibajay.
Sr. Insp. Ariel Nacar of the Ibajay PNP said they had earlier received information that the rural bank was on fire.
Nacar said the town’s firemen immediately responded but when they entered the building, they found the body of Manican on the floor. They took the victim to the Ibajay District Hospital where he was declared dead due to a gunshot to his chest.
After the fire was put out, the firemen also recovered a fired cartridge and a spent bullet of undetermined caliber.
