The 12 wristwatches and six antique pocket watches are from the time of the 147-year-old brand’s original founder Georges Favre-Jacot.
Among the exhibits are the watch that included the first El Primero, the famed Swiss watch movement and the world’s most accurate series-produced mechanical movement in watchmaking history, and the El Primero Striking 10th Chronograph, the latest model from Zenith.
Drawing the largest segment of participants at the exhibition is Mahatma Gandhi’s most prized possession – a Zenith pocket watch which was sold at an auction for $1.8mn, which subsequently found its way back to the Museum of Zenith.
The personal watch of Georges Favre-Jacot that carried his name before 1911, and the watch conceived by Ephrem Jobin, who at 100 years of age is one of Zenith’s oldest watchmakers, are among the exhibits.
Yet another striking pocket watch on display is one from the era of the 1900s. Completely equipped with a full calendar and moon phases, the watch boasts of a two mono-pusher chronograph that alternates between the 1900 to the 1920.
Highlighting the craftsmanship and precision that is synonymous with brand Zenith, the exhibition also displays timepieces from the 50s and 60s. Notable among them is the first steel automatic watch, Captain, which comprises the first Zenith movement with rotor winding in both directions from the 60s.
The classic rose gold square waterproof wristwatch from the end of the 1950s, a kind that was also worn by President John F Kennedy, is also on show.
