Judo, a Japanese martial art created in 1882, is also an official Olympic sport and played all over the world.
In his opening address, Japanese Ambassador Kenjiro Monji appreciated Qatar’s strong support and interest in Japanese martial art.
Qatar Taekwondo and Judo Federation’s judo team manager Hussein Ali Mousa and Hyatt Plaza general manager Feroz Moideen also spoke.
The event began with a brief explanation on Judo by Hajime Kojima, a teacher in the Japan School of Doha and Maher al-Srarfi, a Judo coach of the Federation.
The demonstration consisted of three parts. The first was given by Yukiharu Yoshitaka, an international Judo gold medallist from Japan supported by Walid, a renowned Judo Coach from the Judo Federation.
The second was a children’s session and the third, friendly matches between adults. Around 20 Judo players from Qatar Taekwondo & Judo Federation and Qatar University Judo Club, including two Japanese Judo experts, showed their techniques.
The final part of the event saw a number of audience members trying out Judo under the instructions and supervision of the experts.
