Wakeboarding trials in progress at the Pearl

The Pearl-Qatar will play host to the high-octane world of extreme sports today with the second “Wake the Pearl-Qatar” wakeboarding event.
This event, sponsored by Ronautica Middle East, will transform Porto Arabia at the Pearl-Qatar to become the epicentre of extreme sports, allowing local wakeboard enthusiasts to meet the wakeboarding professionals.
The day-long action-packed event will witness a professional demonstration of the high-energy sport, as well as a hands-on workshop conducted by professional wakeboarder Duncan Zuur covering “tricks” and “kickers” for the aerial jumps.
Following the workshop, participants will be able to show off their own skills on the two wakeboarding jumps specially erected for the event.
The less athletically-inclined may also just enjoy the atmosphere of the island with family and friends.
It is worth mentioning that Zuur has made international headlines for his daring, urban-style tricks, pulling off bold stunts in confined urban locations around the world.
“Wakeboarding has really garnered an intense following in Qatar and the Middle East,” said a participant. “What better location to celebrate the sport than the luxurious surroundings of the Pearl-Qatar?
“There are a range of water sports activities, available at Porto Arabia, including doughnuts and banana boat rides operated by Ronautica Middle East.”
“Wake the Pearl-Qatar” takes place today from 9am, with the jumps open to enthusiasts between noon and 5pm.
Interested spectators are encouraged to arrive early at 30 La Croisette, the boardwalk of Porto Arabia, to ensure the best vantage points.
