Some of the winners in the Arab Games competition show off their certificates

The Arab Games Organising Committee (AGOC) has awarded winners of the Arab Games drawing and writing competitions for schools following a nationwide search for talented artists and story writers to help inspire competing athletes.
The event took place as part of the build-up to the official opening ceremony of the Arab Games on December 9, with all winners, families and their teachers enjoying a reception at the Arab Games interactive zone in Villaggio.
Thousands of youngsters across Qatar participated in the two-month long art and story competitions, which was held as part of the Arab Games community outreach campaign, with school children given the opportunity to express what the Arab Games meant to them.
Apart from their prizes, all the winners will have their artwork and writing proudly displayed at the athletes village as a colourful welcome to athletes from over 20 countries who will be competing in close to 30 sports in the Arab Games for the first time.
AGOC Promotions manager Hassan Abdulla al-Mohamadi handed all winners appreciation certificates in addition to coupons from Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC).
Al-Mohamadi said: “The response from school children has been outstanding. Clearly the competitive spirit of the Arab Games has reached our schools to inspire a new generation of future stars whether in sports, art or writing. Having been involved in the exciting build-up and brought a splash of colour and vibrancy to the athletes village, we now hope as many young people will continue to follow the Arab Games and turn out in force with the games commence.”
