Malaysia’s Prime Minister Najib Razak said in a joint press conference with Qatar’s Prime Minister HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al-Thani yesterday that both countries will each put $1bn in a fund to look for investments. 
“The Prime Minister of Qatar and I have agreed to work to set up a Malaysia and Qatar investment fund with each country to set up $1bn to look for investments,” Najib said.     
He did not elaborate on the type of fund or asset classes that will be invested by the two countries. 
HE the Prime Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al-Thani arrived in Malaysia’s administrative capital yesterday for a three-day visit to strengthen ties between both countries. 
A session of official talks between HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister and Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak was held yesterday.

Talks dealt with bilateral relations and ways of bolstering them, as well as areas of co-operation in various fields.
The session was attended by several members of the official delegation accompanying the Premier, while on the Malaysian side, it was attended by Tourism Minister Ng Yen Yen, Works Minister Shaziman Abu Mansor, Higher Education Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Transportation Minister Kong Cho Ha and Deputy Foreign Minister Senator A Kohilan.
Following the official talks two countries’ prime ministers witnessed the signing of letters of intent on co-operation agreements in the fields of tourism and higher education.

The Malaysian prime minister hosted a luncheon banquet in honour of HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al-Thani and his accompanying delegation.
Earlier upon arrival in Kuala Lumpur, the Premier was accorded an official reception ceremony.
