James J. Mulva
ConocoPhillips Chairman and Chief Executive Officer James J Mulva is leading his company’s delegation at the 20th World Petroleum Congress (WPC) now being held here.
ConocoPhillips is the Platinum sponsor of the 20th World Petroleum Congress that is hosted by Qatar Petroleum and held for the first time in the Middle East since its establishment in 1933.
Held every three years, WPC attracts key government officials, oil companies and industry stakeholders to address issues pertaining to the technological and scientific advancement in energy exploration and production.  It further deliberates the industry’s ecological footprint and its social, and economic impacts worldwide.
This round’s gathering is held under the theme of “Energy solutions for all: promoting cooperation, innovation and investment.”
Mulva will address the WPC plenary session on December 6 entitled “Solutions for global energy challenges- regulatory certainty, environmental protection and geopolitical cooperation.”
In his presentation, Mulva will discuss the ability of natural gas to meet the three challenges of energy security, economic opportunity and sustainability.  In this context, he will discuss the shale gas revolution in Northern America and its worldwide potential and impact on the expanding scale and diversity of the global LNG market.
He will further address the industry’s economic opportunities in direct and indirect job creation as a result of drilling and production operations; and the impact of using affordable fuels such as natural gas to drive economic growth.
Promoting one of ConocoPhillips’ core values, “sustainability,” Mulva will review the environmental benefits of natural gas versus other fuels resulting in greater reduction in carbon dioxide emissions.  He will conclude by discussing the role governments can play to encourage natural gas use either directly or inadvertently.
Held alongside the congress, the World Petroleum Exhibition features exhibits from the national committees of the World Petroleum Council, comprising some of the most prestigious national oil and gas companies and agencies worldwide.
As a Platinum sponsor of the 20th WPC, ConocoPhillips has a large booth at the expo covering more than 300sqms.
