Dr Kelberine making a presentation at the conference
A panel of international experts yesterday discussed the often neglected topic of athlete’s elbow during the Aspetar Qatar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital’s second ‘current concept’ conference series currently under way.
The speakers, including Aspetar medical staff, featured latest presentations in the care of athlete’s elbow and several important topics about elbow injuries apart from sharing their experience during practical lectures and discussion at the conference, which was attended by doctors, researchers, coaches as well as athletes.
Experts such as Luigi Pederzini Orthopaedic and Arthroscopic Surgery chief from Italy, and Dr François Kelberine - orthopaedic surgeon, Aix-en-Provence, France, were among the speakers.
The joint tends to be overlooked in research compared to the knee, shoulder or ankle, making it a fascinating topic for interaction and analysis, an expert said.
Speaking about the event, Aspetar director general Dr Mohamad al-Maad’heed said: “As part of our programme, we are happy to invite international experts to share their knowledge and experience with not only our staff but all the clinical staff of Qatar. The elbow pathology is a very specific and rare pathology and therefore it would be very interesting to learn from these experts.”
Aspetar Surgery chief Dr Philippe Landreau said: “The ‘current concepts’ series started last year with the “Athlete’s Knee”. After the positive feedback, we decided to continue with a less frequently injured joint and which has its specific pathologies.”
An accredited FIFA medical centre of excellence, Aspetar is at the forefront of advancing sports medicine through publications, organisation of symposia and meetings on a variety of topics that are critical to athletes’ well-being.
