Some 21 Qatari women were yesterday felicitated by Vodafone Qatar under its Al Johara sales channel having graduated after completing a 13-month training programme from Vodafone Senior Sales Academy launched last year to encourage entrepreneurship among business-minded nationals.
Al Johara is the first of its kind in Qatar and the region, providing opportunities to Qatari women aged between 18 to 54 years, who were learning, growing, earning and selling Vodafone’s products and services within their communities while still retaining their Qatari traditions.
The event attended by Vodafone chief executive officer Richard Daly, as well as Al Johara’s team members, their family and friends, was held to mark the success of one year since Al Johara was established.  During the event, five of the Johara team members, who performed outstandingly during the training received the “Johara Award of the Year” while others were presented with certificates of appreciation.
Speaking at the event, Al Johara manager Susie Kelt said Vodafone is very proud of the Joharas describing them as a group of “courageous and very capable women.”
“It has been a year of tremendous learning and growth where I personally found the Joharas’ willingness to learn inspiring.  They have been confronted by many new experiences and opportunities which were tackled with enthusiasm and huge commitment,” she noted, adding “The Joharas have had the whole-hearted support of their families as they developed their businesses. Without this critical family support, the women would not have been able to build their businesses as successfully as they have. It is truly a superb family effort,” Kelt added. During the training programme, the women learnt many skills including sales, inventory control, stock and cash reconciliation, brand and customer experience, customer care networking, running events, presentation skills and many other key elements to support their success in a sustainable mobile business.
Daly, who commended the Joharas for their efforts and commitment throughout the training said: “The Joharas are a valued and admired team at the heart of Vodafone Qatar. We are very proud of them for being able to achieve their targets and complete their Sales Academy course, concurrently with  running their daily lives.”
Joharas team manager Hayfaa al-Marri expressed her delight with the progress and significant achievements of the women, saying: “I would like to praise my team for their commitment to being professional and being efficient representatives of Vodafone as they balance their community commitment and their work as successful entrepreneurs.”
Two members of the Joharas team, a Qatar University Mass Communication student Maha al-Marri and mother of five Fatima al-Kuwari, who received the Joharas Award of the Year, shared their experiences on learning under the Al Johara training programme. “We learnt a lot during the training, especially in developing self-confidence, in socialising and in building communication skills, which are essential tools in marketing the business,” al-Marri said.
