A scene from the event ‘Sarita Sangam

Bharathi, the Indian association in Al Khor Community, organised a cultural extravaganza titled ‘Sarita Sangam,’ during the weekend, featuring around 300 participants and 40 choreographers.
A selection of classical, fusion and cinematic performances, with the theme of integrating rivers in India and showcasing India’s rich culture and traditions, was presented.
Throughout the event compered by Abid Bohra, children introduced each Indian river with a presentation under the guidance of Sundaresan Subramanian (Al Khor Community Gavel Club).
The venue, the Al Khor International School – British Stream sports hall was packed with an audience well over a thousand Bharathi family members and guests from several other nationalities.
Indian embassy second secretary Anil Nautiyal was the chief guest.
The Indian Cultural Centre was represented by head of finance Rajesh Singh.
A cheque was presented to Indian Community Benevolent Forum vice president Habib Un Nabi in support of needy community members.
The guests included Qatargas operations manager Hamad al-Humaidi, human resources manager Abdulaziz al-Mannai, engineering manager Dean King, asset manager Keith Merkley, RasGas engineering manager Mohamed H Shikari, education manager Dr Farid Nouri and Al Khor Community’s clubs and recreation head Klaus Tiel.
Bharathi president Murugesan spoke about the forum. Chairman Krishna Kumar gave a brief  message on the National River Interlinking Project in India, aimed at preventing deluges in areas prone to flooding and ensuring water supply in drought prone areas. General secretary Nandkumar Khilari proposed the vote of thanks.
