A team from the search and rescue team at the Internal Security Forces – Lakhwiya performed a parachute jump and landing in Aspire Park to mark the 10-day countdown to Arab Games Doha 2011, one of the most anticipated events in the Arab world.
Organised by the Arab Games Organising Committee (AGOC), the parachute jump took place from an altitude of 7,000 feet on a sunny and clear morning in Doha yesterday.
“We are very close to bringing all the months of hard work to fruition,” said AGOC executive director Khalid al-Mohannadi.
“We are proud to announce that in just 10 days, the best Arab athletes will be competing at world-class venues here in Qatar. We are looking forward to all our Arab brothers from across the region here to support their national teams. It’s a very exciting time and an event that all communities can look forward to attending,” he said.
Members of the Lakhwiya search and rescue team who participated in the parachute jump, who are also dedicated sports fans, look forward to the upcoming Arab Games as a defining event for Qatar.
The Lakhwiya team was instrumental in planning and executing the event, conducting several practice sessions in a row prior to the 10-day countdown.
Following the jump, Lakhwiya officials expressed their pride in being associated with the regional sporting event.
“It is such an honour to be part of Arab Games Doha 2011 as AGOC announces the 10-day countdown – we are eager to see Arab athletes reach similar heights of glory, as we did today,” said a Lakhwiya official.
With the multi-sport event less than two weeks away, tickets sales are already increasing by the day.
“We are offering carefully designed packages for individuals, groups of friends, and families, in order to make this Arab Games accessible and enjoyable to all – and so far the response to the different kinds of tickets has been absolutely remarkable. We are expecting packed stadiums,” said al-Mohannadi.
Full-day, single, and sports fan ticketing packages can be purchased at Virgin Megastores in Landmark and Villaggio malls and through the official website of Arab Games Doha 2011 at
www.arabgames2011.qa.
Selected packages include discounts on QOC and Arab Games merchandise, dining outlets, shopping, and car wash services, among others.
The upcoming Arab Games in Qatar will be the first to take place in the GCC region.
Arab Games Doha 2011 will feature 21 Arab countries, close to 30 sports, and over 6,000 athletes and officials.
