A book in English and Urdu on the life and services of prominent Indian expatriate Hassan Chougule, ‘Imprints Of Life’ (Nuqoosh-E-Hayat) was released by Dr Gopi Chand Narang, a former chairman of India’s Sahitya Academy on Friday.
Indian embassy charge d’affaires Sanjiv Kohli and Bangladesh envoy Mohamed Shahdat Hossain were the guests of honour.
The book features newspaper articles, interviews, articles, and comments in addition to poetic tributes from prominent personalities.
Compiled by Nadeem Mahir and Yakoob Rahi, the book will be released in Delhi on November 17 and in Mumbai on December 8.
In his welcome address, community activist M I Farid highlighted the services of Chougule for the Indian community in all spheres over 30 years.
Chougule is the only individual to have headed all three apex bodies under the Indian Embassy - the Indian Cultural Centre, the Indian Community Benevolent Forum and the Indian Business and Professional Network.
Mahir spoke in Urdu about Chougule. On behalf of the well wishers group, Kohli presented a memento to Chougule. A brochure was released by Ambassador Hossain.
Dr Narang recalled his association with Chougule over the past 15 years in various Urdu conferences in India, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, and lauded the latter’s social and charitable activities.
Kohli remarked that Chougule represents the Indian entire community in all spheres.
Chougule thanked his wife Kausar Hassan for her support in all his endeavours. She presented mementos to Dr Narang, Kohli and ambassador Hossain. Mementos were also given to Anwar Humdulay, Mahir and Shinoj.
The function was compered by Usha Ravi Shankar and Nilangshu Dey proposed the vote of thanks.
