Dr Maini and Prof Profumo shake hands after signing the agreement
Rasad, the ICT platform developed by Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP), yesterday announced a collaboration with the leading Italian research institute, Polytechnic University of Torino (Politecnico di Torino).
Joint research projects on sensors, software, hardware and other domains of common interest are to be undertaken as part of the tie-up.
QSTP executive chairman Dr Tidu Maini and Polytechnic University of Torino, and National Research Council president Prof Francesco Profumo signed an agreement in this regard.
Rasad is the first technology to be developed in Qatar and used overseas. In May, the City of Rome adopted Rasad for their epidemiological studies that will help develop better control and prevention means against different health problems.
Dr Maini pointed out that Rasad has been internationally recognised as a valuable tool to monitor patients suffering from different diseases.
“Working with top scientific teams in Italy allows us to join our efforts and align our goals to harvest significant results.”
Rasad is powered to enable remote monitoring. QSTP designed and implemented the technological architecture of the platform.
Rasad was created so that a variety of different sensors can collect data and transmit it via wireless or wired networks to cloud-based servers that process the data providing real time customised graphical interfaces and services.
Prof Profumo observed that the collaboration with QSTP and particularly with Rasad is essential to put together different yet complementary emerging technologies.
He explained that Politecnico di Torino offers excellence in technology and acknowledges its historical context. It promotes the ability to carry out theoretical or applied research, and also the capacity to achieve concrete and reliable productive processes or organise services and facilities.
“At the Politecnico, today’s needs are analysed to design a sustainable tomorrow,” he added.
