MES Indian School principal Sasidharan being honoured by Kohli at the meeting
Indian expatriate forum Sanskriti has recently honoured MES Indian School Principal A P Sashidharan and rights activist Nizar Kochery at a function held as part of its Onam-Eid celebrations at Skills Development Centre.
Last month, Sasidharan won the National Teachers Award for CBSE teachers serving outside India.
Kochery was honoured for legal initiatives in Qatar to protect the interests of Asian expatriate workers, mainly Indians and Nepalese nationals.
At the meeting Indian embassy charge de affaires and minister (political) Sanjiv Kohli presented mementoes to Sasidharan and Nizar Kochery.
Sanskriti general secretary P N Baburajan and other speakers recalled Kochery’s service to different groups in the expatriate community.
Kochery’s efforts to secure justice for Indian fishermen groups were also mentioned.
Sasidharan attributed the honour to the co-operation extended to him by the members of the management, teaching staffers and students at the school. “I consider the National Teachers Award as special honour for my school. “But for the support from teachers, parents and students, this honour would not have come to me,“ he said.
Before the awards ceremony, members and families organised cultural shows to mark the forum’s Onam and Eid celebrations.
