G Karthikeyan launching the Qatari Malayali Conference publicity campaign
The publicity campaign for the 6th Qatar Malayali Conference got off to a start with Kerala Legislative Assembly Speaker G Karthikeyan inaugurating the month-long exercise at a meeting on Friday.
The speaker cautioned the Keralites living outside their home state to be wary of the threats emanating from moral deterioration.
K N Sulaiman Madani chaired the meeting. Ismail Nanminda introduced conference theme ‘Eternal peace through righteousness’.
A K Usman, K K Sudhakaran, Joppachan Thekkekkoot, A P Abdul Rahiman, Babu Maniyil, and Anfas Nanminda spoke. Latheef Nallalam welcomed the gathering and Basheer Anwari proposed a vote of thanks.
The conference organisers announced a programmes scheduled as part of the build-up to the November 17-18 conference at the Abu Backer Siddique Independent School in Muntazah.
A talent search programme ‘Malayala Prathibha’ for the students of the Indian community schools in Qatar on ‘Malayalam Language and the Cultural Heritage of Kerala’ is on schedule. Students from Indian schools, studying in grade 7 and above, can participate. The contest to be held in two stages and the first stage, a written test, will be held at various schools. The preliminary examination will be on October 21. The deadline to receive entries for the preliminary contest from schools is October 13.
The organising committee also announced a story writing competition for the school students from class starting from Class 6 and upwards. Stories should be in Malayalam.
Authors of the top three stories from each category, namely, junior, and senior, will get valuable prizes and certificates. Last date for submitting stories would be October 17.

An essay competition is being conducted on the theme of the conference in Malayalam. The last date for receiving entries is October 25 and entries should be sent to [email protected] or faxed to 44416422.
