Omani residents in Qatar cast their votes at their country’s embassy in Doha yesterday.

Omanis residing in Qatar yesterday headed to polling centre at their embassy in Doha to elect their representatives in the Omani Shura Council for 2012-2015.
The voting process for Omanis residing in GCC states along with students and members of diplomatic missions, began yesterday at their embassies while voting in the Sultanate’s states will start on October 15.
In Doha, Omanis, numbering between 6,000 and 7,000, including resident men and women, families and visitors, lined up since the early morning to cast their votes at the Omani embassy, which  provided all facilities and made arrangements to ensure the success of the voting process and to enable all Omanis residing in Qatar to exercise their democratic right.
A total of 1,133 candidates, including 77 women, are in the fray in the Shura Council elections. The total number of registered voters is  513,000.
There are dozens of polling centres all across the 61 states of the Sultanate where voters will elect their representatives for the council’s  84 seats, including the seat of the president.
