Management trainees from Commercialbank on the final day of their Executive Leadership Programme
A group of Commercialbank employees recently completed a one-year Executive Leadership Programme meant to groom Qataris for senior leadership roles within the bank.
The course consisted of eight modules, with the last session highlighting project management from concept development to completion. Other modules covered management leadership, customer segmentation and understanding customer needs, regulations and compliance, risk management and money laundering.
Khalid Ali al-Haji, Head of Talent Management at Commercialbank, said: “Commercialbank is committed to training young Qatari leaders and equipping them with the necessary skills for the future.
“The bank had tied up with the London Metropolitan Business School (LMBS), a globally renowned centre of excellence for education and practical training which specialises in developing and delivering curricula directly relevant to business as well as the banking profession. They have developed customised modules to provide vocational training for our future needs.
“Under this unique agreement LMBS will provide experienced teams of lecturers and teachers who will develop bespoke courses, tailored specifically to our professional and the market’s needs.”
The initial candidates for training were picked by the business units across the bank as staff with high potential, al-Haji said.
Najla Moosa, Senior Relationship Manager in Government and Public Sector, has worked for Commercialbank for 11 years, beginning her career in customer service before becoming branch manger after three years. She was the first Qatari to head the main branch before moving to the corporate sector. Moosa said that the training programme added value to her personality and career development, and intends on having a long and successful career with Commercialbank, which she says is consistent in its support for the staff and their development.
Omran Yousef al-Sherawi, also a Senior Relationship Manager, hopes to be a leading figure in the bank within the next ten years, which he says would put him in a position to play a leadership role in the country and community, “as we are all working for this state.”
He said the programme had a great deal to offer, with some modules specific to banking while others covered leadership and management skills, going in-depth in topics covered generally in previous training courses.
Nayef al-Bishri, Senior Management Associate, is currently a full-time trainee, and took part in this Leadership Programme as part of his personal development plan.
With five years of experience in Human Resources and the Qatarisation programme, he has been exposed to different parts of the company during his training to familiarise him with the bank as a whole. He found the programme to be a “rewarding experience” and hopes to bring his new skill-set to his job, although he has not yet chosen a specific career path.
“I have my eyes on corporate banking so far, its different…everyday is a new thing.”
