Ramada Plaza hotel is preparing to host another Laughter Factory, as three more stand-up comedians get set to perform to comedy lovers in Qatar on October 9 and 10.
This month’s lineup includes John Fothergill, Sean Hughes and Marlon Davis.
Fothergill has performed all over the world, touring in the UK, Middle and Far East, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand among other countries. “He started out in showbiz in a band called One Hand One Heart, managed by Chas Chandler of Slade, the Animals and Jimi Hendrix fame,” said a spokesperson, adding “they were signed by Epic, then Sony, and after they were dropped, he went to work on a gas rig.”
“It’s my guess that this cocktail of toil and rock’n’roll is what made him a comic. See for yourself,” she added.
Sean Hughes became the youngest ever winner of the Perrier Award at the Edinburgh Festival in 1990, and went on tour throughout the UK, US, Canada and Australia.
He is probably most recognisable to audiences for his role as a team captain on BBC series, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, and he has been described as one of the best comedians of his generation by the Daily Telegraph.
“His no-holds-barred, quick-fire wit shapes each performance into a one-off, unique experience for his audience,” said the spokesperson, adding “despite a nine-year break from performing stand-up, he was recently voted fortieth in Channel 4’s ‘World’s 100 Greatest Comedians’ poll.”
The lineup will be completed by Marlon Davis, a young comedian who is known for his energy and charm during performances.
After winning the FHM ‘Search for a Standup Competition’ as well as three other national comedy awards, he has performed all over the UK.
“Marlon’s act is inspired from his upbringing, exploring urban Britain tackling its social issues with skilful characterisations,” added the spokesperson.
