Qatar Foundation will hold the annual admissions event series “Discover Education City” campaign today to promote the top undergraduate programmes in all its six universities and the Academic Bridge Programme to prospective high school students.
The event starting at 6pm at the QF’s Student Centre is expected to help fulfil QF’s mission of unlocking human potential and supporting Qatar’s growing knowledge-based society.
The aim of the event was to meet with the “best and brightest students” in the region.
The admissions campaign includes informational events for prospective students, their parents and school counsellors in Qatar and the region.
The six universities - Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar, Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar, Texas A&M University at Qatar, Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar and Northwestern University in Qatar – offering undergraduate and graduate degrees will provide information about courses and admission procedures at the event.
Also participating in the campaign this year is the Academic Bridge Programme.
Qatar Foundation, and its partner universities have been collaborating together to recruit students for over six years.
There are plans to take the campaign universities in Oman, the UAE, Kuwait and Bahrain.
Making an opening remark at a press conference held yesterday at the SFS Qatar, dean Gerd Nonneman said: “Qatar Foundation’s Education City is a clear example of how Qatar has proven itself as not only the choice and attraction for career opportunities, but as an international leader on the geo-political stage.”
TAMUQ Admission director Maha Ayyash said it was important to hold the campaign annually to ensure the students and their parents get the right information about the universities, their programmes, the admissions process as well as the opportunities available to them.
“The Discover Education City campaign complements the ongoing outreach efforts that Qatar Foundation and the universities are doing throughout Qatar. These include school visit programmes, workshops for schools administrators, test preparation opportunities and summer enrichment and pre-college programmes,” she explained.
The official mentioned that there was a competitive pool of students looking for a high quality education in Qatar and in the region.
QF Residence Hall administrator Khalid al-Menhali spoke about his experience as a graduate of TAMUQ and as a current employee at Qatar Foundation and noted that students attending one of the universities in Education City gain prestigious qualifications from top academic institutions while also learning in state-of-the-art facilities and from top practitioners in their fields.
“We graduate well-equipped to embark on a promising career path and I am a prime example of how Education City graduates secure great job opportunities. All this is thanks to the vision of HH the Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani and HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser,” he said.
Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar alumnus Noor al-Jassim, who is currently working at Tasweeq- Qatar International Petroleum Marketing Company and SFS-Q student Mohamed al-Nasr both shared with the audience their university experiences.
Al-Jassim described how the unprecedented opportunities for both in and out of classroom learning helped prepare her to enter the workforce and succeed in a very competitive market.
Al-Nasr emphasised the important benefits Qatari students get from having world-class universities in their home country.
Qatar Foundation hosts several institutions that offer graduate degrees including the Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies and European partners Hautes Etudes Commerciales (HEC Paris in Qatar), which will offer executive education programmes and UCL Qatar, which will offer masters degrees in museum studies, conservation and archaeology.
