Wadhwa inaugurating the forum as Arvind Patil, Captain Karnik and Hassan Chougule look on
Indian Ambassador Deepa Gopalan Wadhwa formal launched Karnataka NRI Forum’s Qatar chapter at the Indian Cultural Centre on Friday.
Karnataka NRI Forum chairman Captain Ganesh Karnik said a long-time demand of the Kannadigas staying in Qatar had finally come true with the formation of the local chapter of the NRI Forum.
“The forum would serve to bridge cultural and business ties between the NRIs in Qatar and Karnataka state,” he said.
Karnik assured the Indian businessmen in Qatar that they would receive all sorts of assistance from the forum in setting up businesses in the southern Indian state.
He appealed to the representatives of the Karnataka expatriate forums to extend full support and co-operation to NRI Forum’s activities.
At the meeting, Karnik announced that Karnataka government nominated Arvind Patil as the representative of the forum from Qatar. Patil was president of the Karnataka Sangha from 2007 to 2009.
Among others present at the meeting were Indian Cultural Centre president K M Varghese, Indian Community Benevolent Forum president Nilangshu Dey and community member Hassan Chougule.
Arvind Patil welcomed the gathering and Deepak Shetty proposed a vote of thanks.
