MES Indian School students have retained the overall championship in the fortnight-long Youth Festival of Indian Schools, organised by expatriate forum, Friends of Thrissur, at different Indian schools in Qatar.
Qtel was the main sponsor of the festival, which attracted more than 1,100 students.
MES won the title, scoring 195 points and finished way ahead of Birla Public School (109 points), which came second. DPS-Modern Indian School were third with 58 points.
Abhijit of MES was crowned the individual champion (Kalarathna) in the boys section while Sruthi Sreenivasan, also of MES was adjudged the girls champion (Kalashree).
At the valedictory function on Friday, chief guest and Indian ambassador Deepa Gopalan Wadhwa lauded the efforts of the forum in organising a festival for the third successive year for children of local Indian schools.The envoy later released the event souvenir.

Friends of Thrissur president Shahul Panickaveettil chaired the meeting. General convener V A Haneef welcomed the gathering, treasurer K R Sidharthan proposed a vote of thanks and
Anjali Prasannan anchored the programme.
Besides the ambassador Deepa Wadhwa, Col al-Wadani, Dey and Varghese, classical dance exponent from Kerala Kalamandalam Hemalatha, MES Indian School principal A P Sashidharan, Kalamandalam artistes Priya Kishore and Sneha Shreekumar, local entrepreneur P A Latheesh and upcoming film actress Aishwarya Murali, were among others who gave away the prizes.
