Seventeen people were killed and 35 injured in a bus collision in eastern Afghanistan, officials said yesterday.

“A bus with 46 passengers heading to Kabul from Ghazni province collided with a Toyota Corolla driving to Ghazni late on Thursday in Nerkh district,” said the office of the provincial governor of Wardak, where the
accident happened.

All six people in the car, including two women, died on the spot, and 11 passengers of the bus also lost their lives.

“Thirty-five others including women and children were injured, with 20 in critical
condition,” the statement said.

Road traffic accidents are common and frequently fatal in Afghanistan, particularly on the highway between Kabul and Ghazni, due to fast driving and recklessness as well as bad road conditions.

Four killed in blast: Four people were killed and eight others injured when a bomb went off in Afghanistan’s Baghlan province yesterday, a local official said.

“A bomb planted by militants in a bazaar of Burka district exploded at around 2pm today leaving four persons, all civilians, dead and injuring eight others, including two security personnel,” Mullah Taj Mohammad told reporters.

Women and children were also among the victims, he added,
according to Xinhua.
