On Sunday, Newbury Racecourse hosted a Purebred Arabian day with three Group I races on the card. The representatives of HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Khalifa al-Thani won two of the highlights of the day, against top class international rivals.
In the Dubai Duty Free Hatta International Stakes (Gr1 PA), sporting the colours of Al Shahania, Djainka des Forges won by two and a half lengths from Loraa, one of the best French fillies of her generation.
In winning another Group I, HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Khalifa al-Thani’s champion proved that she is as good as ever in 2015. Last year she also won this same race at Newbury. That was her run before her success in the Qatar Arabian World Cup (Gr1 PA). Djainka des Forges then earned the highest rating in the world for an older horse in 2014. This is therefore a very promising victory.
In the Shadwell Dubai International Stakes (Gr1 PA), Gazwan recorded the second Qatari success of the meeting. This homebred of HH Sheikh Mohammed beat the experienced Djet Taouy, a proven horse at Group level. On his first start Gazwan finished third in the Qatar Derby des Pur-Sang Arabe de 4ans (Gr2 PA), in June at Chantilly. On Sunday at Newbury he stepped up in class in winning at Gr1 PA level. He looks like the one to follow in the top European races for the rest of the season.
