Preparations for the FIG World Challenge Cup 2015, to be held in Doha from March 25 to 27, are on in full swing.
The Higher Organizing Committee under the leadership of Ali al-Hitmi, president of Qatar Gymnastics Federation (QGF), has invited a great number of the world’s prominent sports figures including presidents of the continental gymnastics unions to attend the tournament being hosted by Qatar for the eightth consecutive time.
A host of Olympic and world champions have confirmed their participation for the event which will be held at the Aspire Dome.
The increase in the number of countries which have confirmed their participation in the event is due their trust in Qatar’s abilities and the trust of the FIG officials in the faithful efforts being made by the QGF.
Members of the working committees are keen to organise an exceptional edition of the championship as Doha was selected by the FIG in May last year to host the 2018 FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships.
The FIG decision to award the hosting rights of the World Championships to Qatar came as result of the country’s success in successfully organising a number of international events including seven editions of the FIG World Cup Series, the 2008 Asian Championships and the gymnastics events at the 2006 Asian Games, 2011 Arab Games 2011 and the Gymnasiade in 2009.
The Higher Organizing Committee chaired by Ali al-Hitmi also includes among others—Mrs Abeer al-Buainain, QGF assistant secretary-general who will also play the role of tournament director; Mohamed al-Maraghi, deputy tournament director and head of public relations committee; Abdulrahman al-Qahtani, head of financial committee and media; Fawaz Eid al-Zaraa, head of transportation committee; Anis Mostafa, QGF technical expert and director of tournament’s website; Mrs Aysha al-Neama, head of protocol committee; and Abdulrahman al-Moftah, head of spectator committee—in addition to the representatives of Ministry of Interior and Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital.
