The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) has closed a tyre shop in the New Al Ghanim area for a month for the display and sale of balloon tyres that do not comply with the approved standards and specifications.
A violation was registered and the shop was closed for the said period due to repetition of the offence, according to a statement.
The administrative closure and violation will be advertised in two local dailies at the expense of the offender, as well as on the MEC website, according to provisions of Article 3 of Law No 8 for 2008 regarding consumer protection.
Meanwhile, MEC inspectors registered 130 consumer protection violations in September as part of the ministry's efforts to control the local market through sudden and regular inspection visits at commercial outlets throughout the country.
Most of the violations pertained to the failure of outlets to provide proper price lists for articles/services and fraudulent practices.
The penalties for such violations include fines of QR5,000 to QR30,000 and administrative closure of the outlet concerned for different periods.
