A preparatory meeting of the Undersecretaries for Tourism Affairs in the GCC began here yesterday, to discuss ways to strengthen co-operation between the GCC countries in the tourism sector, prior to the second meeting of the GCC tourism ministers, which will be held in Doha on Wednesday.
The meeting seeks to enhance decision-making processes, transfer of knowledge and identify co-operation frameworks between travel and tourism sectors in the GCC region .
Speaking at the opening session of the meeting, chairman of Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) Issa bin Mohamed al-Mohannadi lauded efforts to activate the GCC joint action in the field of tourism during the last period.
He called on participants to discuss issues and joint programmes in the field of tourism, and to identify challenges of those that had been approved by the GCC tourism ministers during their first meeting in Kuwait.
Assistant Secretary General for Cultural and Media Affairs of the GCC Khaled al-Ghassani stressed that the GCC General Secretariat attaches great hopes from this meeting, which aims to focus on the revitalisation of intra-tourism, through activating a tourism strategy for the GCC countries. This he said can be achieved in collaboration with the cultural and commercial aspects in each country.
