Jaidah Automotive, the exclusive dealers of Chevrolet vehicles in Qatar and the official organiser of the SeeMyDoha photography competition, has announced the winners of the second edition of the contest.
All the nominated pictures are being exhibited at the Souq Waqif Art Centre until June 3. The award ceremony was attended by Abdul Razzak al-Kuwari, manager of the Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage’s office, and Mohamed Jaidah, group executive director of Jaidah Group.
The SeeMyDoha photography competition, an offshoot of SeeMyCity, has been adopted by Jaidah Automotive as the way forward to its annual photography contest.
The competition uses camera-enabled smartphones and social media platform Instagram, and started in January 2015. This year’s competition had a record 8,014 photo entries, totalling to 109,242 photographs under #SeeMyDoha on Instagram.
The competition’s aim is to portray Doha in a new and inspirational way, reflecting people’s unique experiences. This year, the top three finalists were chosen from the newly introduced themes - Doha in Motion, Lines of Doha and Colours of Doha.
Each winner received a cheque for QR10,000, presented by Jaidah and Marianne Hope, founder of SeeMyCity. The rest of the competitors were awarded trophies at the ceremony.
Aysha (IG@esh0o) won the Doha in Motion theme with her entry titled A Wanderer’s Haven. The winner for the Lines of Doha theme was Mirna Mahyudin (IG@mirna_mahyudin)with the photograph titled Knowledge and Enlightenment. As for the Colours of Doha theme, the winner announced was Iman Heaphy (IG@imanheaphy) with the photograph titled Three to the power of the One.
“We are very pleased to be bringing back a competition with such artistic value, and hope to continue receiving the same amount of quality images that this competition keeps generating,” said Jaidah. “This year, we received a record number of remarkable images portraying Doha in an outstanding light, making it difficult to choose only three winners.
We hope to continue organising this unique competition that reflects our continuous commitment to provide meaningful social contributions to this wonderful country.”
