A new unit of the Medical Commission will be opened soon at Mesaimeer area for workers, an official told local Arabic daily Arrayah.

The new unit, which could receive 500 visitors a day, is part of the co-operation between the Medical Commission Department and Qatar Red Crescent (QRC). Workers units of the medical commission are being inaugurated at the recently established workers clinics and health centres.

The official told the daily that the department would make specific appointments for each company or entity to bring their employees and workers for the necessary medical checkups. This is intended to avoid unnecessary crowding at the medical commission units. The department has recently seen major upgrades in terms of sophisticated equipment for lab and radiology sections.

In case a newly arrived expatriate is suspected to be infected with Tuberculosis, communication is maintained with Hamad Medical Hospital to determine the conditions of the case and whether the person can be treated in Qatar and have no risk of being contagious before any decision is taken regarding his stay in the country or repatriation. The individual concerned would not be repatriated until his or her health becomes stable and involves no risk of contagion.
