Supreme Council of Health (SCH) has confirmed a new case of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus (Mers-CoV) infection in a 29 year-old expatriate worker employed at a camel farm in Qatar. This is the third confirmed case of Mers-CoV in the country this year.
The worker attended a primary care health centre on May 19 with symptoms of fever and cough for five days. He was tested positive for Mers-CoV and transferred to the hospital with strict infection prevention and control measures. The patient has no chronic diseases or conditions or travel history during the incubation period of Mers-CoV.
The patient, currently in stable condition, is receiving appropriate treatment under strict infection prevention and control measures. A joint Health Protection & Communicable Disease Control (HP & CDC) team along with the Animal Health Department is doing a detailed investigation of the other workers and camels at the barn where the patient worked.
Health education messages about appropriate preventive measures were shared with all contacts and they were advised to comply with the recommended Mers-CoV preventive measures.
