Crackdown on spam texts
The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) is drafting a code of conduct to ensure that senders of marketing and advertising messages through mobile phones comply with legal, regulatory and social obligations. The code will also ensure the protection of customers’ right to receive such commercial information and stop receiving it whenever they want to in a simple process. The CRA, mandated to regulate the telecoms sector and protect customers in Qatar, announced in a statement yesterday that it was monitoring reports in local press and social media about telecom customers receiving scam or spam messages on their mobile phones.

Common toll-free number for taxis soon
A common toll-free number will become operational for taxi customers in Qatar a few days from now, an official of Mowasalat’s Taxi Management Office told Gulf Times yesterday. “With the launch of a common toll-free number, hiring of taxis will be much easier,” the official stated. The unified call centre of Mowasalat is already functioning with different call free numbers for each of the four franchisees and Mowasalat’s own Karwa taxis. At least two of the franchisees are currently using the same toll free number now, it is understood.

Scattered rains likely today
There is a  chance of scattered rain showers, accompanied by thunder at times, in different parts of Qatar, especially in the afternoon today. The Met Office  cautioned that strong winds might hit both the offshore and inshore areas. The maximum temperature in Doha will be around 36 degrees and the minimum  24 degrees.
