The festival was jointly inaugurated by British ambassador Nicholas Hopton and his wife Alexandria Hopton in the presence of Mohamed Althaf, director, Shaijan MO, regional director and other senior officials from LuLu, Qatar region, dignitaries from the British Council and UK Trade & Investment, and senior executives from leading business groups in the retail industry and other walks of life.
This year’s festival will take place until March 15 at all LuLu outlets in the region.
The festival is held in line with the celebrations envisaged by the British embassy and based on LuLu’s annual events calendar at all LuLu Hypermarket outlets. The objective is to celebrate the culinary heritage and food habits of the Western world and make them popular among the local community as well as large cross-section of expatriates hailing from various countries.
The LuLu Group has been organising the British Food Festival for many years and,
according to the management, the response they receive every year is overwhelming, the
company has pointed out in a statement.
Every year, it culminates with the showcasing of the complete range of British manufacturing, encompassing categories such as grocery, fruits & vegetables, delicatessen, dairy products, frozen foods, bakery products, fish, hot food, household and health & beauty, etc.
The LuLu Group, as a global player in the retail sector, launched operations in Birmingham, UK, with the inauguration of Y International (UK) Ltd in 2013.
The major activities of this fully-owned subsidiary are procurement, consolidation and export of British products to their 113 retail stores. The group has considerable import business from the UK for decades, and with the launch of its logistics centre in Birmingham, the turnover has increased significantly, the statement adds.
